Making Space Trainee Young Producers

Scottish Youth Theatre is offering a training opportunity with attached bursary for aspiring producers aged 18-25.

Making Space is Scottish Youth Theatre’s residency project for young artists ready to drive their own creative practice. Over 3 months we will support up to 16 residencies (solos, duos, trios, or new collaborations) from a wide range of arts practices to engage in bespoke artistic development, making cross art form work for a brand new innovative online festival in March 2021.

Scottish Youth Theatre recognises a lack of professional development opportunities for young aspiring producers, further compounded by the impact of COVID-19 on the arts and creative industries. We are inviting applications for 3 traineeships in producing and project management as part of the Making Space project running between January and March 2021.

Working across digital platforms, Young Producers will help shape a festival to contain 16 pieces of new work created by the Making Space Residency Artists. They will work in collaboration with the Scottish Youth Theatre core team, Creative Mentors, Residency Artists and Production Manager to get the Making Space Online Festival ready for live audiences in March 2021.

Young Producers will receive:

  • A training bursary of £1000 to cover time and expenses.
  • Additional access support (e.g. digital resources, SLI, Captions etc).
  • Optional 121 wellbeing sessions.
  • Professional mentorship from Scottish Youth Theatre’s Creative Producer.

Between Monday 4 January and Monday 29 March 2021, Young Producers must commit the equivalent of one day per week (Monday-Friday) to their role. This must include Wednesday mornings 10am-1pm. Young Producers will work additional days in the run-up to the online festival, which is reflected in the final bursary payment.

Scottish Youth Theatre takes an intersectional approach to dismantling barriers to participation. As part of our strategic work in targeting underrepresentation for young people entering the professional sector, Young Producers must identify as working class.
