Opportunities to undertake a stonemasonry apprenticeship have arisen this year based at:

• Fort Charlotte, Shetland
• Kirkwall, Orkney
• Fort George, near Ardersier

These posts will follow the fixer mason training curriculum – further information regarding the curriculum can be found on the SQA website. As an apprentice you will be given the chance to develop expertise and knowledge through on-the-job assessment and attendance at college to study the theory relating to Stonemasonry.

You will join the Estates team within the Conservation Directorate. The Conservation Directorate is one of eight Directorates within HES and is tasked with the care and conservation of the 336 Properties.

Working with HES for 4 years, you will gain a nationally recognised, high level qualification; a SVQ at level 3 or Advanced Craft. You will have the opportunity to develop your Stonemasonry skills on projects at Historic Environment Scotland sites or on placements with Contractors undertaking Stonemasonry on conservation or new projects.
