Modern Apprenticeships with The Highland Council
In 2017, Highland Council introduced the wider Modern Apprenticeship team. The initial target was to reach 150 apprenticeships across the services within 2 years. We achieved this and have continued to successfully grow the apprentice programme to employ new staff and upskill existing employees.
As of Mar 2023, the Modern Apprenticeship (MA) and Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) programmes have supported over 500 employees to enrol in apprenticeships across 20 MA/GA frameworks. Employees on the programme have gained industry recognised qualifications from SCQF level 5 to SCQF level 10 (equivalent to honours degree).
The frameworks we have been able to support are:
- Business Administration
- Civil Engineering
- Construction - Building
- Data Analytics
- Domestic Plumbing and Heating
- Electrical Installation
- Freight Logistics
- IT & Telecommunications
- Paralegal
- Payroll
- Project Management Technical
- Social Services & Healthcare
- Social Services (CYP)
We currently have apprentices based in Alness, Applecross, Ardersier, Ardgay, Aviemore, Avoch, Ballachullish, Dingwall, Dornoch, Farr, Fort William, Gairloch, Golspie, Grantown, Inverness, Invergordon, Kiltarlity, Lairg, Nairn, Nethy Bridge, North Kessock, Plockton, Skye, Tain, Thurso, and Wick.
