Strathspey Railway - Business/Operations Apprentice wanted

The Strathspey Railway has a vacancy for a Business/Operations Apprentice.

As the successful candidate will spend much of their time interacting with the travelling public, this position would suit a confident young person with a pleasant, outgoing disposition ideally aged between 18-24, but would consider a 17 year old. The salary for this position will be above the basic MA rate and employees are entitled to a travel discount UK wide which would mean a return rail cost from Inverness to Aviemore of £2.50 a day.

This is a three year, nationally recognised, Modern Apprenticeship in Business Management and Railway Operation leading to a fully documented statement of practical learning and experience from the Company and an academic qualification at HNC/Degree level.  The main role is one of support for the Station Manager and Operations Manager in their day-to-day running of the Railway.  In addition there will be involvement in marketing, developing and promoting the Railway and while some of these tasks will be undertaken as individual projects the emphasis will be on becoming a valued member of the Business Team.

The position demands a determination for the Railway to succeed and prosper and the opportunity exists for innovative ideas and constructive enthusiasm.

The Strathspey Railway is a non-demarcation organisation and, should the need arise, the undertaking of any duty within the trainee’s capabilities will be expected.

Over the three year apprenticeship considerable experience will be gained in:

  • business administration,
  • marketing and communication,
  • customer care,
  • event organisation,
  • IT,
  • project management
  • operations and development
  • economics and accounts
  • an academic qualification in Business Studies through Inverness College/U.H.I.
