The Highland Retail Academy is one of 56 Retail Skills Shops throughout the UK, within the National Skills Academy for Retail, providing access to consistent, high quality trainers for retail businesses, their employees and future workforce.

Our Mission Statement – To be a recognised element in the improvement of the customer service experience throughout the Highlands, Islands and Moray regions of Scotland.

As excellent customer service is vital in our opinion, we aim to provide the very best training, relating to retail and customer facing business.
We also appreciate that delivery of effective, good customer service is rewarded by enhanced customer loyalty, increased customer usage and ultimately improved profitability.

What do we offer?

If you are thinking about a career in retail, we offer pre-employment support and advice including the Retail Works course which has been developed in close collaboration with recognised High Street retail brands such as John Lewis as well as many independent retailers to provide a practical and down to earth introduction and first steps in retail.

If you are wishing to develop your skills further we also offer in work development such as support for apprenticeship opportunities and management development opportunities.

Who can apply?

If you are an individual thinking about a career in retail, or already working in retail and hoping to progress your career, we can offer training to suit your needs.  Our training can be pitched at a variety of levels to suit all ages and stages.  Most of our courses are commissioned by employers and employability related partners, to meet their needs, so can be on a referral basis.

What can you achieve?

We deliver a number of accedited courses at all levels depending on your needs and experience.  At introductory level you could achieve our Retail Works or World Host Award.  If you are looking to develop your managerial skills we offer the ILM Certificate in First Line Management Level 3 and ILM Workshop in Managing for Efficiency and Effectiveness Level 5.  We also deliver a range of business courses to suit employers and to increase the skills of their staff such as, Health & Safety Training, Manual Handling and Sale of Goods Act etc.  Full details of all our opportunities can be found on our website in the Business Strands section.

Could I get a training allowance?

Each course is funded in a different way, so any training allowances would be calculated on an individual basis.  Contact our office to find out more.
If you are a Modern Apprenticeship you should be entitled to a wage.
